I started my MB journey by looking & browsing through ebay and occasionally on reddit. MB Le Grand/ 146 would be the best starting point as it's the most popular MB (and most widely available in the used market). Platinum trim (vs gold trim) demand slightly higher premium ($50-$100 higher for used). On ebay, look for listings from sellers that have 99% or higher rating (they typically sell multiple MB fountain pens). I've yet to have a bad transaction from ebay and 75% of my MB purchases are from ebay. Look for pens that are new (or NOS - New but old stock) or used but only used once or used only a few times. Try to buy new or as close to new condition as possible. Look for listings/ pens that have "box & papers". Pens that don't have box are typically more used & worn. For new 146 gold trim MBs, look around $350 give or take (not including tax and shipping).
